Need for beds for single workers is calculated by subtracting the estimated number of unaccompanied workers from the number of beds available in migrant labor camps permitted by the Florida Department of Health. Counties with negative need for single worker beds have higher than average shares of migrant workers and large supplies of migrant camp beds, which may serve workers during multiple harvesting periods. Need for beds for workers accompanied by other household members is calculated by subtracting the estimated number of households from the supply of farmworker housing subsidized by USDA Rural Development and Florida Housing. Published by the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies, University of Florida, Florida Housing Data Clearinghouse. Source as published: U.S. Census Bureau, 2024 American Community Survey 1-Year and 5-Year Estimates. Counts refer to the number of households with monthly owner costs in each dollar range. Monthly owner costs including mortgage (if any), taxes, insurance, utilities, and association fees. The ACS is based on an annual sample of US households. The margin of error (+/-) is based on a 90% confidence level; that is, there is a 90% probability that the actual value falls within the range provided by subtracting and then adding the margin of error to the estimate. If margin of error is greater than the estimate, result is not statistically significantly different than zero. 1-year 2024 ACS estimates are available for 46 counties and 41 incorporated places. 5-year 2020-2024 estimates are used for the remaining counties and cities.

The margin of error (+/-) is based on a 90% confidence level; that is, there is a 90% probability that the actual value falls within the range provided by subtracting and then adding the margin of error to the estimate. If margin of error is greater than the estimate, result is not statistically significantly different than zero.

Annual distribution amounts do not include program income, recaptured funds, carry forward funds or other funds which local governments also use to funding housing strategies through the SHIP program. Thus, expenditures may exceed the annual allocation. Statute requires that local governments spend 20 percent of their SHIP distribution to serve Persons with Special Needs. The Persons with Special Needs percentage of distribution may exceed 100 percent when a local government spends its entire distribution plus any portion of its program income for Special Needs Households. City/county amounts are combined due to interlocal agreements for Broward County/Coconut Creek, Margate, and Weston; Charlotte County/Punta Gorda; Collier County/Naples; Duval County/Jacksonville; Escambia County/Pensacola; Flagler County/Palm Coast; Okaloosa County/Fort Walton Beach; and Sarasota County/Sarasota (city).
